Apple Tree

22 Aug

“I believe this is our last meeting”

“What?”

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier but I’m getting married soon, to a stranger that I’ve never met”

“Did your parents force you into this?”

“No, I actually agreed into this forced marriage”

“But, why?!”

“My parents needed the money”

“If you do this, are you going to be happy?”

“I don’t know, maybe I will or maybe I won’t”

“Then run away with me”

“What? Are you insane?”

“I maybe insane but I’m not as insane as you, sacrificing your happiness for money. Money can’t buy happiness”

“Well it does for some people”

“But you’re not one of them, I know what type of person you are. You rather run around the field and watch the skies the whole day, rather than worrying about the food you’ll eat the next day”

“But I have to do this, I can’t let my family die in poverty”

“Then wait for me, wait for me to rich enough to buy you a mansion and feed your family until they can’t take another bite. When that time comes, marry me”

“But I’ll be gone tomorrow”

“Then let’s meet each other in the same place, under the apple tree”

“Then I’ll wait for you”

“I’ll wait for you even for eternity”

“You’re back!”

“Well I told you didn’t I?”

“I missed you”

“I miss you too, how’s being a wife to that man?”

“He died after a month”

“I’m sorry”

“No, no it’s fine. I realized he didn’t love me, he didn’t even touch me on our honeymoon”

“Then how is your family?”

“They all left to another country, living the life with their pockets filled with cash and bellies filled with expensive meals”

“How are you then? I haven’t seen you in years”

“Well I’ve been lonely and tired of waiting for you. Are you supposed to ask me something when we see each other again?”

“How can I forget?”

He knelt down in front of her and pulled out a ring from his pocket.

“Will you marry me?”

“Of course I will”
